2. Segara Anak: The Crescent Crater Lake

Nestled tightly alongside Mount Barujari is Segara Anak (meaning “Child of the Sea”). This breathtaking, crescent-shaped crater lake sits roughly 2,000 meters above sea level.

The water shifts in color from vibrant turquoise to deep emerald blue depending on how the sunlight hits it. On a clear day, the lake perfectly mirrors the towering volcanic walls that surround it.

3. The Famous “Sea of Clouds”

As you reach either the Senaru or Sembalun crater rims to set up camp for the night, you will likely find yourself standing completely above the weather.

During sunset and sunrise, a thick, fluffy blanket of white clouds frequently rolls into the valleys below, leaving the peaks floating like isolated islands in a golden sky.

• The Crimson Sunbird: Keep an eye out for flashes of vibrant red feathers darting between alpine wildflowers.

5. Natural Hot Springs (Aik Kalak)

If your trekking itinerary includes a steep descent down into the crater lake itself, you will have the chance to visit Aik Kalak.

Located just a short walk from the lakeside campsites, these natural, geothermally heated hot springs flow directly out of the volcanic rock. The warm, mineral-rich waters are a godsend for soothing sore, aching muscles after hours of heavy hiking.

6. Edelweiss Flowers (The Eternity Flower)

As you push past the tree line into the high-altitude, rocky savanna zones, you will encounter patches of Anaphalis javanica, popularly known as the Javanese Edelweiss.

These resilient, powdery-white flowers thrive in the harsh, windy, volcanic soil near the summit. Because they can look fresh and alive long after being picked, locals refer to them as the “Eternity Flower.”
